Proudest athletic accomplishment of 2011? Creating the Bruckner Chase Toa o le Tai Youth Program at the request of the Amerika Samoa Governor following my swim from Aunu’u to Utulei.
Most memorable moment participating in your sport? Completing a swim across Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary in 2010 to launch the BLUE International Film Festival and begin a new life as an ocean advocate connecting others to the oceans we all share
Plans and goals for 2012? Work with my wife, Michelle, towards the expansion of the Toa o le Tai and Ocean Swimming/Ocean Science initiatives in Amerika Samoa and new locations stateside, Expansion of the Legion of Ocean Heroes mission to create opportunities to positively impact how we feel, think and act towards our oceans, Complete the 2Samoas/1Ocean swim and film projects, Complete the inaugural Ultimate Waterman Challenge in South Jersey, Complete a 25+ mile swim across the Thunder Bay National Marine Sanctuary, Expand my work with Special Olympics International as a Special Resource adviser for open water swimming, Compete in the USLA Nationals in the swim, craft and International Ironman events.

What drives you to swim? A belief that open water endurance events are the perfect vehicle to share a personal, intimate connection to the waters that we share and create a way to positively impact how we all feel, think and act towards our oceans.
What do you enjoy most about your sport? The ocean’s embrace

Do you have any words of advice, or tips and tricks for aspiring swimmers? Technique, wattage tracking, heart rate monitoring, advanced training plans and nutrition can only take you so far…at some point you need to LOVE what you are doing.
Three things people don’t know about you? I was rescued from drowning twice before I was 10, Occasionally I still get afraid in the ocean, but I just don’t let the fear determine what I do next, I feel that what I do in the water pales in comparison to what my wife Michelle’s late father, Col. Stewart Evans accomplished in the 50’s and 60’s- long before we had GU, GPS or even goggles.
